Dr. Heavey has been in General Practice for 22 years, 17 in Ireland and 5 in England. Dr. Heavey's current dental practice is in Sandycove and has 2 Expense Sharing Partners, an Associate, a hygienist and 11 support staff. Garry is a past president of the IDA, is currently Vice Chairman of the board of DDH, and is Chairman of the fitness to practice Committee of the Dental Council. He has lectured on various dental topics both at national and International Conferences. Dr. Heavey and his team from Sandycove made a presentation on progressive dental teams to the 2002 joint IDA/BDA conference in Belfast. Key members of Dr. Heavey's team are: Orla Forde - B.Comm. Degree and professional 1 exams of the institute of Chartered Accountants. Fiona O' Shaughnessy - Qualified DSA and member of the Irish Dental Nurses Association. Tara Blair - Honours degree in Psychology (TCD).

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT

Dr. Heavey's team provide one-day or weekend courses examining the major aspects involved in the running of a dental practice. Some of the topics covered are:

Keys to building a successful Dental Practice - How patients judge you, Patient needs, Fees & financial record keeping.

Practice administration - managing the appointment book, organising the reception/office, record keeping, Patient recall systems, communications within the practice, and dealing with complaints.

Employment - Defining job descriptions, Interviewing (hiring & firing), Contracts, Staff training & safety systems, staff contracts.

Dental Practice Financial Management - This includes organisation of wages, balance sheets daily, weekly, etc. Reconciliation of bank lodgements and receipts under the guidance of expert financial advisors.

Practice Management Courses - Nearly 50 dentists have completed these courses successfully. Courses need to be booked early as demand is increasing.
